Numbers never lie. Whether you’re a business owner analyzing your profit and loss statements or a sports coach looking at wins and losses, the only thing that can’t be refuted are the numbers. In a fast paced, non-stop game like basketball, it’s hard for a coach to keep track of all the relevant stats (minutes, shots, fouls, assists, etc…). Fortunately, there are some very helpful apps for just that.
The sleek design and easy to use interface makes Easy Stats for Basketball a great choice for coaches who may not be the most tech savvy, allowing one to easily keep up with all the basic basketball stats like points, rebounds, assists, and more. Another great feature of Easy Stats is the ability to quickly share box scores on all major social media platforms. Easy Stats does have in-app purchases that open up the ability to track even more advanced stats, most of which cost less than five dollars.
While this app does cost $19.99, Breakthrough States gives you the ability to track a jaw-dropping 65 different statistics. In addition to the basic stats afforded in most apps, the developers at Breakthrough have included some seriously advanced metrics that allow any coach to plug in the data and see the deeper layers of your team’s successes and failures. All stats can easily be exported to your MAC or PC as well.
Not only is the iScore app free to download, there are no in-app purchases required to use this app to its full potential. The only real “complaint” concerning this app is that it’s a little more complex to use than some of the others, but the developers do include an entire training section on their website which can help you get up to speed pretty quickly. This one is definitely worth a look.
4. Hoop Metrics
The Hoop Metrics app is the epitome of the old saying, “You get what you pay for.” It does allow for a free trial, but after that trial expires, there is a monthly or yearly subscription option. But with that subscription comes a lineup optimization tool that takes the stats that you input, uses an algorithm using plus/minus statistics, and shows you what lineup option should produce the best results.
Your app choice ultimately comes down to what you’re looking for and what sort of a budget you’re working with. However, thanks to the wonders of modern technology, you don’t have to keep stats with just a pencil and paper anymore.
